My Favourite Movies of 2014
Hi Guys (and gals)
I'd like to consider myself as a film fanatic, and I constantly watch movies on a daily basis, have done since I can remember. I'd also like to think that my opinion on films means something as I watch a wide range of movies and know a good one from a bad one! So drum roll....here is my list of some of my favourite movies from 2014! -
Nightcrawler
Dir: Dan Gilroy
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton
In my opinion, this has got to be the movie of the year, it has suspense, crime and comedy with a brilliant performance by Jake Gyllenhaal. I highly recommend this film.
-Foxcatcher
Dir: Bennett Miller
Cast: Channing Tatum, Steve Carrell, Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller
One of my loves in professional wrestling, so I was hooked from the get go, even though its about amateur wrestling. The whole story is compelling and eerie and you don't know what to expect. Great performances by all of the cast, most notably Steve Carrell.
-Interstellar
Dir: Christopher Nolan Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine
Another classic by Christopher Nolan-he can do no wrong. Truly epic and should be watched first at a Cinema, preferably IMAX.
-Guardians of the Galaxy
Dir: James Gunn
Cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper (voice), Vin Diesel (Voice)
Marvel hit another home, this time with a slightly differently movie that what we have come to expect. Great casting and soundtrack!
-Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Dir: Matt Reeves
Cast: Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell A well made sequel with a great and compelling story. Andy Serkis should get recognition for his motion capture performance.
-The Grand Budapest Hotel
Dir: Wes Anderson
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, William Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law
A typical Wes Anderson film with lots of interesting characters and smart dialogue. Ralph Fiennes gives an excellent and funny performance.
-22 Jump Street
Dir: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller
Cast: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube
Its very rare to find a comedy sequel that is on par or even better than its predecessor. Very funny.
-X-Men:Days of Future Past
Dir: Bryan Singer Cast: Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McEvoy, Jennifer Lawerence, Halle Berry
On par with First X-Men, X-Men 2 and First Class, and I love time travel movies. Finally erases the memories of X-Men 3. Looking forward to X-Men Apocalypse.
-The Interview
Dir: Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen Cast: James Franco, Seth Rogen
Another classic comedy from Rogen & co, just as funny as Superbad and Pineapple Express. Laughed all the way through.
-The Edge of Tomorrow
Dir: Doug Liman
Cast: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton
A great Sci-Fi/Time Travel movie-its gripping, well acted and in some places, really funny.
-The Imitation Game
Dir: Morten Tyldum
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Kiera Knightley, Matthew Goode, Charles Dance
A very good English drama, kind of like A Beautiful Mind meets The Kings Speech. Very well acted and great performance by Cumberbatch.
-Gone Girl
Dir: David Fincher Cast: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike
A truly chilling and fascinating drama-Another Fincher classic. They have to give Rosamund Pike the best Actress Actress-mesmerising performance.
-The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Dir: Peter Jackson
Cast: Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lily, Orlando Bloom
Great end to an epic volume of Middle-Earth stories. The best Hobbit film from the trilogy.
-Chef
Dir: Jon Favreau
Cast: Jon Favreau, Scarlett Johannsson, Robert Downey Jr, Dustin Hoffman
Enjoyable comedy/drama with a great cast. Makes you want to eat everything and become a chef!
-Dumb and Dumber To
Dir: Farrelly Brothers
Cast: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels
Although not as good as the first movie, its still had me laughing all throughout the movie, and it was great to see Jim Carrey back to what he does best.
Thats the lot. I've probably forgot one or two films. Hope you watch at least one of these films, you wont be disappointed.
